Malcolm C. Roberts

Malcolm C. Roberts is responsible for the strategic and operational direction of FM, one of the world's largest commercial property insurers and which insures nearly US$10.2 trillion in business property in more than 130 countries.

Roberts previously was executive vice president with oversight of underwriting and reinsurance, engineering and research, client experience, marketing and sales, claims, strategy and business enablement, as well as information services.

Prior to that, he was senior vice president, Eastern division manager, based in the company's Norwood, Massachusetts, USA, office. There, he oversaw all client relations, underwriting, engineering, processing and administration for the division.

During his tenure, he has also served as vice president, Chemical operations manager, where he was responsible for ensuring the profit, growth and servicing of all of FM's insured locations within the chemical process industry, including producers of petrochemical, commodity, fine and specialty chemical products, alternative fuels and pharmaceuticals.

Earlier in his career, he was vice president, manager, operations engineering, before becoming operations vice president, branch manager, Forest Products in FM's Stockholm, Sweden, office and then being named vice president, operations manager, Dallas operations based in Plano, Texas, USA.

Roberts is chairman of FM’s board of directors. He also serves on the board of the Partnership for Rhode Island, a nonprofit CEO roundtable dedicated to making Rhode Island a better place to live, work and learn; and on the Boston Children's Hospital Philanthropic Board of Advisors.

Roberts joined the company in 1995 as a loss prevention consultant in London after working as a chemical engineer.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering honors degree in chemical engineering from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
