James P. Thompson

James Thompson is senior vice president, division manager, Asia-Pacific. He is based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

As division manager, Thompson is responsible for operations and strategic direction across the Asia-Pacific region, including underwriting, client service and engineering.

Prior to this appointment, Thompson held numerous sales, underwriting and engineering leadership roles at FM, including vice president, global sales, Asia-Pacific; vice president, manager of underwriting and global services, Asia-Pacific; and division underwriting manager for the broader territory of Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific.

Earlier roles at FM include client service manager for FM’s Australia operations in Melbourne and manager of engineering of natural hazards for the staff engineering group in Johnston, Rhode Island, USA. Thompson joined FM in 1993 as a field engineer.

Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s degree in environmental engineering, both from the University of Melbourne. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
